The site
Paphos is a coastal city in southwest Cyprus with roots reaching back through Greek and Roman antiquity, when the name covered both Old Paphos and New Paphos. Facing the Mediterranean, it is celebrated for its ancient architecture, mosaics, and religious importance, which earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. It later served as a European Capital of Culture for 2017.
