The site

Khirokitia is a Neolithic settlement on the island of Cyprus, occupied from around 7000 to 4000 BCE. This UNESCO World Heritage site is prized as one of the best preserved prehistoric sites in the eastern Mediterranean, its clustered dwellings ringed by fortifications built for communal protection. Khirokitia offers striking evidence of an organized, functional society and stands among some twenty similar aceramic villages once scattered across the island.
