The site

Sidon, or Saida, is an ancient Phoenician-Punic city on Lebanon's Mediterranean coast, today the country's third-largest, sitting about 40 kilometers south of Beirut. Its long occupation stretches across millennia, roughly 4000 BCE to 1291 CE. On the UNESCO tentative list, this deep-rooted seaport still anchors a metropolitan area of more than a quarter-million people.
