The site

Tel Hazor is the sprawling ruin of a Canaanite city in Israel's Upper Galilee, north of the Sea of Galilee, and the largest archaeological site in the region. In its Bronze and Iron Age prime it was the largest fortified city around, trading with Babylon and Syria and importing tin for bronze. Excavated by Yigael Yadin in the 1950s, its upper tell and vast lower city earned World Heritage status in 2005.
