The site
Tel Megiddo rises as a layered mound at the western edge of Israel's Jezreel Valley, an important Canaanite city-state in the Bronze Age that later became a royal city of the Kingdom of Israel. Set at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, it guards impressive fortifications, palaces, temples, and a sophisticated water system. Twenty strata of ruins record continuous settlement, and its Greek name, Armageddon, echoes through Revelation.
