The site

Aspendos is an ancient Greco-Roman city in Antalya province, Turkey, set on the Eurymedon River about 16 kilometres inland from the Mediterranean. Occupied from around 500 BCE to 1200 CE, it stood as a rival and hostile neighbor to the nearby city of Side. Now on UNESCO's tentative list, its riverside setting anchored one of Pamphylia's leading towns.
