The site

Çatalhöyük is a great Neolithic and Chalcolithic proto-city built on a mounded tell overlooking the Konya Plain of southern Anatolia in Turkey, occupied from around 7500 to 5600 BCE. Its densely packed mud-brick dwellings, entered through the roof, are famous for their scale and apparently egalitarian social structure. As one of the best-preserved examples of early permanent settlement, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.
