The site

Aphrodisias is a Hellenistic Greek city in the Caria region of western Anatolia, Turkey, named for Aphrodite, the goddess of love who held a unique cult image here. Occupied from roughly 200 BCE to 600 CE, it later took the Byzantine name Stauropolis, the "City of the Cross." Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, it lies inland near the modern village of Geyre.
