The site

The Great Serpent Mound in Peebles, Ohio, is a prehistoric effigy mound linked to the Mississippian world, coiling 1,348 feet across a plateau above Ohio Brush Creek. It is the largest serpent effigy known anywhere on Earth. First surveyed by Squier and Davis in 1848 for the Smithsonian, this low earthwork ridge is now a National Historic Landmark on the UNESCO tentative list.
