The site

Etowah Indian Mounds are a 54-acre Mississippian archaeological site on the north shore of the Etowah River in Bartow County, Georgia. Built and occupied in three phases between 1000 and 1550 CE, its earthen mounds make it, by one assessment, the most intact Mississippian site in the Southeast. Both the Muscogee Creek and Cherokee peoples hold the ground sacred today.
