The site

Poverty Point is a prehistoric earthwork complex in the United States, built by mound-building peoples between roughly 1700 and 1100 BCE. Its concentric ridges and monumental earthen mounds form vast geometric shapes across the landscape. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands as one of North America's most striking early feats of large-scale earthen construction.
