The site

Nan Madol is a stone city built across a network of artificial islets off Pohnpei in Micronesia, the ceremonial and political seat of the Saudeleur dynasty. Occupied from roughly 1100 to 1628 CE, its palaces and platforms rise from tidal channels, giving it the character of a capital laced with waterways. This remarkable island complex is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
