The site

Grime's Graves is a vast Neolithic flint mining complex in Norfolk, England, worked between about 2600 and 2300 BCE. At least 433 shafts were sunk into the chalk to reach seams of flint, the largest more than 14 metres deep and 12 metres wide, demanding that crews haul out over 2,000 tonnes of chalk before good stone was reached. The prized flint supplied the polished stone axes of the age.
