The site

Avebury is a Neolithic henge monument in Wiltshire, England, encircling the village of the same name and containing three stone circles. Constructed over several centuries in the third millennium BCE, it holds the largest megalithic stone circle in the world within a great bank-and-ditch enclosure. Its original purpose is unknown, though archaeologists believe it served some form of ritual or ceremony, set amid a wider prehistoric landscape.
