The site
Su Nuraxi di Barumini is a Nuragic site in Barumini, Sardinia, whose name simply means "The Nuraghe" in Sardinian. At its heart stands a stone tower from around the seventeenth century BCE, reinforced by a bastion of four corner towers around a central keep, with a village that grew around it and was lived in from the thirteenth to the sixth century BCE. Scholars regard it as the most impressive expression of Nuragic civilization, and it joined the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997.
