The site
The Roman Theatre of Orange is a Roman theatre in the town of Orange in Vaucluse, France, raised early in the 1st century AD to serve the colony of Arausio. It ranks among the best preserved of all Roman theatres, its towering stage wall still standing intact. Once a stage for mime, pantomime and poetry heard by crowds who spent their leisure here, it now hosts the summer Chorégies d'Orange opera festival.
