The site
Kom Ombo is an agricultural town on the Nile in Egypt, about 50 kilometers north of Aswan, originally an Egyptian settlement called Nubt, the 'City of Gold.' Its riverside position gave it some hold over trade routes running from Nubia into the Nile Valley. The town's real prominence came with the Temple of Kom Ombo, erected in the second century BCE during the Greco-Roman period.
