The site
Harappa is an Indus Valley city in Punjab, Pakistan, near the former course of the Ravi River, occupied from about 3300 to 1300 BCE. At its Mature Harappan peak it may have held some 23,500 residents across roughly 150 hectares of clay-brick houses. The ruins were badly damaged under British rule, when bricks were quarried as ballast for the Lahore–Multan Railway; the site now sits on UNESCO's tentative list.
