The site

Uxmal is an ancient Maya city of the Classic period in the Puuc region of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, and one of the most important sites of Maya culture. Its buildings are celebrated for their size and refined decoration, with smooth low walls opening onto ornate friezes in the region's dominant Puuc style. Ancient raised roads called sacbes link its structures and once reached distant cities, and Uxmal is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
