The site

Luxor Temple is a great Ancient Egyptian complex on the east bank of the Nile at Luxor, ancient Thebes, built around 1400 BCE and known as ipet resyt, the southern sanctuary. Unlike neighboring temples, it honors no single cult god but the rejuvenation of kingship itself, and may have been where pharaohs were crowned. Amenhotep III, Tutankhamun, Ramesses II and later Alexander all left their mark, and in Roman times it anchored a legionary fortress.
