The site

Tanis, known in Arabic as San al-Hagar, is an important ancient Egyptian city in the northeastern Nile Delta. It served as the capital of Egypt during the 21st and 22nd Dynasties, roughly 1070 to 712 BCE. Built along the Tanitic branch of the Nile, which has long since silted up, the site preserves the memory of a delta capital now stranded from its vanished river.
