The site
Sungbo's Eredo is a vast system of defensive walls and ditches southwest of the Yoruba town of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria. Built within the Ife-Benin cultural world, it is said to honor the Ijebu noblewoman Oloye Bilikisu Sungbo. This monumental earthwork, dated to roughly 800 to 1100 CE, sits on Nigeria's tentative list of potential UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
