The site

Sillustani is a pre-Hispanic funerary complex on the Umayo peninsula in southern Peru, spread across some 60 hectares above the shore of Lake Umayo. It is best known for its chullpas, tall stone burial towers raised by highland Colla society and later refined under Inca rule, with roughly 91 towers recorded alongside terraces, stairways and monoliths. The differing techniques and scale of the towers still trace the shift from local lords to Inca control.
