The site

Piquillacta is a large archaeological site built by the Wari culture in the Cusco Region of Peru. This sprawling planned settlement served chiefly for ceremonies and was influenced by the central Wari heartland. Occupied from roughly 550 to 1100 CE, it holds a curious detail for the field notebook: the site was never finished when its builders abandoned it.
