The site

Segesta was one of the major cities of the Elymians, an indigenous people of Sicily, located in the northwest of the island near modern Calatafimi-Segesta in Italy. Occupied between roughly 700 and 400 BCE, it was hellenized very early, a process that deeply shaped its people. Today its ruins draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Sicilian hills.
