The site

Newgrange is a grand Neolithic passage tomb raised around 3200 BCE on a rise above the River Boyne in County Meath, Ireland, older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. Beneath a vast circular mound, a stone passageway leads to a cruciform chamber that held burnt and unburnt human bone; the striking façade of white quartz cobbles is ringed by kerbstones carved with megalithic art. Some of its stone was hauled from mountains many kilometres away.
