The site

Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado protects some of the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan sites in the United States. Established in 1906, it holds more than 5,000 sites, including some 600 cliff dwellings tucked into sheltered alcoves of the green tableland. Chief among them is Cliff Palace, one of the largest cliff dwellings in North America, and the reason this is the country's largest archaeological preserve.
