The site

Hovenweep National Monument, established in 1923, preserves Ancestral Puebloan towers and villages on the Colorado-Utah border, built and occupied roughly between 1200 and 1300 CE. Its distinctive stone towers, perched at canyon heads and around springs, are the signature of the site. Some 43,000 visitors a year come to trace the tightly built masonry of a community that thrived here for barely a century before departing.
