The site

Ħaġar Qim is a megalithic temple complex on the Mediterranean island of Malta, raised during the Ġgantija phase between about 3600 and 3200 BC. Among the most ancient religious sites on Earth, it was recognized by UNESCO in 1992 as a World Heritage masterpiece. Its builders worked in soft globigerina limestone, which has weathered and flaked so badly over the millennia that a protective tent was completed over the temple in 2009.
