The site

The Calanais Stones stand on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, a Neolithic arrangement of tall stones set in a cross-like plan around a central circle. Raised between roughly 2900 and 2600 BCE, the weathered gneiss menhirs predate much of Stonehenge's later work. Alignments hint at the tracking of sun and moon across the Hebridean sky, making Calanais one of Britain's most striking prehistoric monuments.
