The site
Tarraco, formally Colonia Iulia Urbs Triumphalis Tarraco, was a Roman port city on the coast of what is now Spain, occupied from about 218 BCE into the early centuries CE. As a provincial capital it grew into one of the leading Roman cities of the Iberian Peninsula. Its surviving walls, forums and public buildings earned Tarraco its place on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
