The site
Sabratha lies on the Mediterranean coast of Libya, about 70 km west of modern Tripoli, and was the westernmost of the three cities of Roman Tripolis alongside Oea and Leptis Magna. Occupied from around 500 BCE into the Roman era, it grew into a prosperous coastal city. Its extensive archaeological remains were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
