The site
Ġgantija, whose Maltese name means place of giants, is a Neolithic megalithic temple complex on the island of Gozo in Malta, raised between about 3600 and 2500 BCE. These are the earliest of the Megalithic Temples of Malta and older than the pyramids of Egypt, ranking among the world's oldest surviving religious structures. Local folklore credits their construction to a giantess who lived on fava beans and honey.
