The site

Nuri is an ancient Nubian necropolis in northern Sudan, standing on the west bank of the Nile near the Fourth Cataract. Dating to the Napata period of the Kushite realm, it served as a royal burial ground where more than twenty steep-sided pyramids rise from the sand — among them the tomb of the pharaoh Taharqa, who ruled both Kush and Egypt as its 25th Dynasty. This desert cemetery is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
