The site

Firuzabad is a Sasanian city in Iran, active from roughly 224 to 651 CE. Founded by Ardashir I at the dawn of the dynasty, it was laid out on a perfectly circular plan, and its nearby palace of domed halls and fire temple set the template for later Persian and Islamic city-building. For the traveller tracing Persia's imperial roots, Firuzabad offers a window onto Sasanian architecture at the empire's birth.
