The site
Coba is an ancient Maya city set among the lagoons of the Yucatán Peninsula, in Mexico's state of Quintana Roo. It stands at the nexus of the largest network of stone causeways, or sacbeob, in the Maya world, radiating from its center to distant sites. Its many carved stelae document ceremonial life and key events of the Late Classic Period, when Coba was a major power on the peninsula.
