The site
Ayutthaya Historical Park preserves the ruins of the old Siamese capital in central Thailand, founded by King Ramathibodi I in 1351 and flourishing until 1767. The park spreads across the point where three rivers meet, a strategic setting that earlier drew Khmer settlers to the area. Its excavated temples and traces of ancient reservoirs mark one of Southeast Asia's great royal cities.
