The site

Tula is the Toltec capital in central Mexico, built around 900 CE and occupied until roughly 1150 CE. Within its urban core stand ceremonial pyramids, palaces and a ballcourt, one temple platform crowned by the Atlantes — colossal basalt warriors that once held up its roof above a shrine to the feathered serpent Quetzalcoatl. Tula stands as a key window onto Toltec civilization in the centuries before the rise of the Aztecs.
