The site
Tiya is a medieval Ethiopian stone-alignment site, active roughly between 1000 and 1400 CE and now inscribed as World Heritage. It belongs to a broader tradition of carved standing stones set across this region of Ethiopia, markers raised in rows across the landscape. As a rare surviving field of these engraved megaliths, Tiya preserves a monumental record of a culture that left few other traces.
