The site
Si Satchanalai Historical Park in northern Thailand preserves the ruins of a Siamese city founded in 1250 as the second center of the Sukhothai Kingdom and residence of its crown prince. Its most notable feature is a rectangular walled city, later ringed by a five-meter wall and moat against Burmese attacks. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, its Buddha figures and ruined temples still draw thousands of visitors each year.
