Mount Nemrut is a 2,150-metre peak in southeastern Turkey, among the highest in the eastern Taurus range, crowned by an extraordinary summit sanctuary of the kingdom of Commagene. Large stone statues stand ringed around what is thought to be a royal tomb of the 1st century BCE. This dramatic mountaintop monument is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
