The site

Naqa is a ruined city of the Kushite Kingdom of Meroë in modern Sudan, set on the Butana plateau a short caravan journey east of the Nile. Its position on the trading routes toward the east gave it strategic weight, making it one of the largest ancient sites in the country. Two notable temples survive here, one dedicated to Amun and the other to the Kushite god Apedemak, with a Roman kiosk standing nearby.
