The site

Koh Ker is a remote Khmer site in northern Cambodia, about 120 kilometers from Angkor, where more than 180 sanctuaries lie scattered across forested country. Under kings Jayavarman IV and Harshavarman II it briefly served as capital of the whole empire, from 928 to 944 CE, driving an ambitious building program of some forty temples and a vast reservoir. Its centerpiece, the double sanctuary of Prasat Thom, rises in a rare linear plan crowned by a towering stepped pyramid.
