The site

Kaminaljuyu, whose Quiché name means 'The Hill of the Dead,' is a major Maya site now swallowed by modern Guatemala City. Occupied from roughly 1500 BCE to 1200 CE, it once comprised some 200 platforms and pyramidal mounds spread across about five square kilometers. Real estate development has erased most of it, leaving only a small preserved park, yet it remains reckoned one of the greatest archaeological sites in the New World.
