The site

Aquincum is an ancient Roman city that once guarded the northeastern frontier of the province of Pannonia. Its ruins survive today in the Óbuda district of Budapest, occupied from the first century CE to around 400 CE. Field lore holds that Marcus Aurelius wrote at least part of his Meditations here, giving these frontier stones an unexpectedly philosophical pedigree.
