The site
Ugarit is an ancient coastal city on the Syrian shore, tied to the Phoenician-Punic world and occupied across an extraordinary span from roughly 6000 BCE until about 1190 BCE. Its harborside setting made it a hub of trade and exchange in the Levant. The site rewards the patient visitor with layer upon layer of settlement, a place where a single mound records thousands of years of continuous life before its abandonment.
