The site

Tipasa is an ancient coastal city in central Algeria, founded around 600 BCE as a Phoenician-Punic settlement and later a Roman colonia in the province of Mauretania Caesariensis. Its ruins spread along the Mediterranean shore, occupied for over a millennium until around 600 CE. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, it was briefly listed as endangered before conservation work removed it from the danger list in 2006.
