The site

The Prahadisvarar Temple is a Chola temple in Thanjavur, southern India, completed around 1010 CE. Raised at the height of Chola power by Rajaraja I, its granite tower soars more than sixty metres, crowned by a single capstone weighing some eighty tonnes — a feat of engineering and one of the dynasty's great achievements in stone. The temple is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site among the living monuments of the Chola dynasty.
