The site

Sarazm is the remains of an ancient city on the left bank of the Zeravshan River in north-western Tajikistan, tied to the Oxus (BMAC) world of Central Asia. Radiocarbon dates place its life across the 4th to 2nd millennia BCE, making it one of the region's earliest urban settlements. This UNESCO World Heritage Site predates the arrival of the Andronovo steppe culture, and preserves a proto-urban chapter of Central Asian prehistory.
