The site
Sanxingdui is a walled Bronze Age city in Guanghan, Sichuan, and the type site of the Sanxingdui culture that flourished here between roughly 2800 and 1100 BCE. Largely uncovered in 1986, its pits yielded artifacts radiocarbon-dated to the 12th and 11th centuries BCE, unlike anything known elsewhere in China. Archaeologists link the locale to the ancient kingdom of Shu, and its treasures now fill the nearby Sanxingdui Museum.
